Winter and Fire Safety #RecipeforSafety

Winter and Fire Safety

Promotional Item received. All opinions are my own.

The holidays in our home are very food centered.

We spend hours in the kitchen cooking big turkey and ham dinners, baking pies, baking cookies and other homemade goodies to gift to our loved ones and neighbors.

But, did you know that cooking is the number one cause of home fires and injuries, and that the winter months are the deadliest season for home fires?

I am a witness to this!

I nearly burned my house down!

It was cold out but I wanted to bbq, so I rolled the grill up closer to the house and started it up. It was my first time using it by myself and I didn’t realize I needed to clean off the grill before using it. Apparently is was caked in grease and while I was inside finishing up the hamburger patties a big grease fire was brewing. As I walked by the door I saw the flames shooting straight up the side of my house! Thankfully I had a fire extinguisher in the kitchen and the issue was taken care of quickly. I’m not sure what I would have done if I hadn’t had one handy.

Thankfully that was an outdoor fire and I learned not to bbq so close to the house (or better yet, let my husband do the outdoor cooking).

Think about that happening inside! Did you know that most fatal home fires happen in homes with no smoke alarm or no working alarm. I realize not everyone has a fire extinguisher, but it’s crazy to me to think that not everyone has a smoke alarm.

And, a recent Kidde survey revealed some pretty startling statistics, including: Nearly five times as many Americans know the shelf life of a Twinkie than know the recommended operating life of a smoke alarm.

I’m just flabbergasted.

Thankfully Kidde has put together this cute Recipe for Safety card that helps outline just what items are needed as well as a few other kitchen tips to help protect your family. If you click on the image it will bring you to a pdf file that you can print out or save for future reference… it’s a great resource!

Kidde #RecipeforSafety Card

Kidde has a fabulous line of fire safety items perfect to fill up a “new neighbor basket”. With this cute recipe card attached with a bow I think it would make a fabulous welcome gift!

It went up like a torch, took the Christmas tree, and she lost two entire rooms, plus smoke damage throughout the house and even had to go to the hospital for smoke inhalation. Use flameless candles!!
