Emma loves music. We found this out when she was around the age of 2-3. Emma had difficulty winding down and would have some serious fits that only alone time and music could cure. One day at Josh’s soccer game we gave her our MP3 player to listen to and watch videos on. So began Emma’s “music therapy”. Her mood swings lessened considerably and she seemed overall happier!

Fast forward to now. To be honest, we are all a little tired of sharing our MP3 players with Emma. She is a music hog. When Sony offered to let us review one of their Walkmans I was very intrigued. To be honest, I hadn’t heard of a Sony Walkman MP3 player. Heck, I still have a Sony Walkman radio/cassette tape player in my beside table drawer!

The Sony Walkman E Series 8GB MP3 Player arrived in a fun green print. It is a small palm sized unit that comes with headphones and a transfer cable.

Some of the notable features are:

So we loaded the Walkman with all of Emma’s favorite music and videos and gave her a quick demo of how it works. Mind you, Emma is only 5. Her first instinct was to touch the screen… multiple times. She was actually a little frustrated at first. I again showed her how to use the buttons to get to the main screen, which logos meant music &/or video and how to scroll through the lists.

 

It didn’t take long and she was a Walkman pro. We haven’t officially “given” it to her, but we allow her (and Ethan) to sit with it at the table or on the couch and listen/watch to their hearts content. She now loves her music player and we love having our own back in our possession.

 

A few thoughts from an adult point of view: I played around with the Sony Walkman to get a feel for the flow and usability. It didn’t take me long to catch on, actually. The layout was much like a cell phone. It reminded me of my old Nokia. There wasn’t any lag between choosing an option and having it move to that screen and I felt it was quite intuitive to use. The sound quality was fantastic as was the video. I expected a little lag on the screen or fuzz for this price point, but was pleasantly surprised! I, too, found myself touching the screen to make a choice only to laugh at myself. I think the Sony Walkman E Series 8GB MP3 Player is a great intro model or for someone that just isn’t into “apps” and just wants music and video. The size makes portability a snap… the color is fun and trendy. I feel it lives up to the Sony name!

    This looks like a great MP3 player. I certainly have no need for an Ipod, and I’ve been looking for a good MP3 player for awhile. I like that this can store videos as well, plus it is made by Sony which is a greatly trusted brand around here.
