My husband and I were recently chosen to try The California Wine Club Premier Club gift membership for 3 months. We are not regular drinkers, but my husband has been known to purchase a bottle of wine from time to time. He likes to enjoy a glass while he winds down for the night.
I was excited to tell him about our gift subscription. Because we don’t drink often, we get overwhelmed when trying to decide on a bottle. There are so many choices, and we almost always end up getting one we’ve already tried for fear of not liking our new choice.
The Premier Club is a great way to learn about wine and the California wine scene, perfect for the wine novice or aficionado. It’s an affordable gift, too.
Wine Club Guarantee:
There is never any bulk, closeout or private label wine. Each wine club feature is hand-selected by Bruce & Pam and one that they proudly serve in their own home to family and friends. There are no wine of the month club membership fees, you can cancel anytime and every wine is 100% guaranteed.
The wine arrived in a standard cardboard box, surrounded by a form fitted styrofoam container. I had been very curious about how the bottles would be shipped without breaking. They were in perfect condition, which says a lot. We all know how carriers handle most of our boxes . Accompanying the wine was a copy of their newsletter “Uncorked” and a congratulations letter stating we were receiving a 3 month membership.
As I mentioned earlier, we are extreme novices when it comes to wine. We were excited to try a few new varieties of wine. This month we were sent a bottle of Perry Creek Winery ‘Zinman’ Zinfandel and a bottle of Perry Creek Winery El Dorado Chardonnay. I noticed the stickers on the bottles. The chardonnay had a “silver medal winner” sticker and the ‘Zinman” had a “gold medal winner” and “silver medal winner” sticker.
So what did we think? I have to say… make sure these are nice and cold when you try them. We were excited to try them and dove in too soon. They had been in the fridge for a couple of hours, but that wasn’t enough. We started with the ‘Zinman’ and I wasn’t impressed. My husband tasted the potential in it, though, and decided to chill it for quite a bit longer. Second time around was a much better experience. He said the flavor shocked him a bit at first, but it grew on him and he decided he really liked it. I would describe it as a dry red wine… but again I’m a novice. The Chardonnay was more my style. A lot less dry. I have to say we were very happy with this shipment and cannot wait for next month!
