It’s been 24 weeks on Nutrisystem for myself and 20 weeks for Kaytlin.
Last week I told (and showed) you about cleaning out my closet. All of my “too big” clothes are now gone. Well, Kaytlin followed suit and cleaned out her closet as well. I am sure the DAV was happy to see all of our clothes coming in, but our empty closets made us sad. I had planned on heading to Fashion Bug (because I had a coupon) but Kaytlin’s bank account was empty from paying school fees so we stopped at the DAV (thrift store) first.
I have never found clothing at a thrift store that fit right. So this trip was intended for Kaytlin, but by the time we were both done sifting through the racks we both had a cart full of clothes to try on! Kaytlin had more success in the shirts and dress section and I scored with pants… we were both over the moon! It blew our minds that we were able to walk out with four bags of clothes and spend under $60… it was exhilarating! I spent less on a “temporary wardrobe” (because you know it is going to be too big soon :O) for both of us than I would have on a few tops and a pair of capris for myself brand new from the store. Needless to say, we both plan to hit the thrift stores again very soon… because our “new” wardrobe will be too big again soon!
I also learned something this week…
I need to pay closer attention to our food supply. You see, I overlooked the fact that Kaytlin and I were almost out of food. Nutrisystem was fantastic about ordering it quickly, but (as most of you know) UPS is not the quickest (or most careful, but that’s beside the point) method of delivery and our boxes somehow got hung up in Illinois for two days *sigh*. Our boxes took 8 days to arrive *pout*.
So… Kaytlin and I were “winging it” for several days this week. We ran out of breakfast and lunch items, so we just tried to eat healthy. It was a scary time for me, as I really didn’t know what I was doing. It was my time of the month and I was really missing all of my chocolate food items. I was a pretty good girl and stayed away from the “real” thing. Before Nutrisystem I have been knows to put an oversized Hershey’s bar with almonds away in 20-30 minutes time… yep, one sitting!
Oh! I forgot to mention our elliptical! I am loving this machine. I use it 2 – 3 times a week for 20 minutes. At first I was going to try to “up” my time each use, but I’ve decided to work on the intensity instead. Twenty minutes seems to be just right as far as time (for me) right now.
Stepping on the scale worried me a little, but I was met with a nice little surprise…
a 1 lb loss!
That puts me at 32 lbs in 24 weeks

This week Kaytlin stayed the same …

Congratulations you two!!! Fantastic work!
I am so excited for you! I LOVE that yall found so many clothes! What an awesome feeling!!! And way to go on the winging it! Yall did great. Keep up the great work. I am so proud of you!
You two are doing awesome, as usual! Congrats on the new temporary wardrobes as well – what a score!
This is awesome loss. We had to take a little break due to surgery and the dreaded BRAT diet but got back on track yesterday! Thank goodness.
First of all, a giant congratulations to you and your daughter!! Nothing is more thrilling then having to buy smaller clothes because yours are too big!!! I agree the thrift shop is a great place to shop – temporary wardrobe or not. Last week, I found two Lord & Taylor cashmere sweaters – one with the $129 tag still attached – for $2.99 each. I paid another $5 at the dry cleaners – wound up investing $11 for $258 sweaters! So I am a believer in “treasure hunting”
My question is regarding the food. You said that when the food was late, it was like a panic mode in not knowing what to eat until it arrived. I’ve always wondered about these programs where everything is pre-packaged because, realistically, no one will be able to continue to eat them for the rest of their lives. So what does the program do to try and teach people about healthy food choices, or a realistic diet of “regular” food that you’ll be able to continue to lose and/or maintain your weight loss?
Again, I think what you’ve achieved is wonderful and I’m not trying to be negative, I just feel like many people, myself included, wonder what happens when someone’s time is up on NS (or JC or any similar packaged food programs) or when finances make it impossible to continue? If people aren’t taught what healthy choices are out in the real world, they might tend to return to what they did before. Does NS provide tools for you (or anyone on their program) to help for when you transition back to store bought/restaurant food?
Sorry for rambling – but I’ve always wondered that, and reading how you felt when the food was late arriving, made me want to ask.
Congrats on another successful week!
Thanks Gina! I hear you on the retraining to eat in the real world. I eat a ton of “real” food as prescribed by the plan. I also have a breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert item provided by Nutrisystem. I have not gotten this far yet, but it’s my understanding that they will help teach you how many calories to try to stay around to maintain your loss, what types of food to keep at a minimum (they are already teaching us that) and there is a Nutrisystem cookbook (I just don’t have it yet) that helps with meal planning. Apparently I am learning because I was still successful without their food for most of the week. It’s kind of like the karate kid… you don’t understand why they are doing what they are doing… but it all comes together when you finally need it. kwim?? :O)
You’re both doing brilliantly and what a great idea to head to the thrift store for your new but temporary wardrobe!
