Toy Story RC’s World Race Play Set, Racer Figures & Vehicles

As a Mattel Disney Insider I will be bringing you some of the hottest new Disney toys, our experiences with them and oftentimes offering them as a giveaway!

This months Disney toy is Toy Story RC’s World Play Set, Racer Figures and Vehicles. The RC’s World Play Set comes in just a few pieces with a sheet of stickers. Assembly took only a few minutes and the kids were ready to race.

Inspired by their trusted friend RC, the remote controlled buggy (he is not actually remote controlled in this playset), Buzz, Woody and the whole gang gear up for an adventure at the race track. The new racing-inspired theme allows racers to hit the track with their favorite Toy Story characters and vehicles. The Toy Story RC vehicle and figure assortment deliver full-throttle action when they are placed in the ultimate Toy Story RC’s World Play Set. Kids can tune-up their Toy Story vehicles on the garage lift and then watch them race in side-by-side action.

Setting up the vehicles to race involved “revving” up the vehicles (pulling them backwards a few times), backing them into the green clasp and showing the kids where to push when Mommy counted to three.

On the count of three they both pushed their red button and the vehicles took off! They each had a turn at “winning” and then I stepped back to watch them play as they wished.

Ethan had fun putting the figures on the vehicles and setting everything up. Emma actually spent quite a bit of time backing the vehicles up onto the ramp and “fueling” them up with the gas pump. The imaginative play that has been happening with these Toy Story toys has been incredible. They even set up their own race a few times but were then distracted and started reenacting the movie and pushing the vehicles around the house.

The simplicity of the toys mixed with the detail and quality makes this set a must have for any Toy Story fan. I was completely surprised when Emma asked me if these could “be hers” and store them in her bedroom. Having these toys has sparked quite a bit of imagination and the kids like to play with them while they are watching the movie. I thought a bit more racing would be happening, but I am pleased at the amount of interaction and imagination that has been sparked by them.

For fun, the Disney Mattel team has created a playmation skit with the Toy Story toys.

Toy Story – “The Great RC Race” Toymation – Fun Factoids

  • 13 trips were made to the local Salvation Army and St. Vincent de Paul Society to collect all the miscellaneous props
  • There were 15 John Grisham novels, 3 sets of Encyclopedia Britannica, and more than 400 books total used to create the set
  • Every shot required at least 5 hours of set up with props and lights
  • Every shot needed 12 frames per second
  • The shoot used a crew of 10 people and lasted a little over 3 ½ weeks
  • We had to shoot fast when using any candy props due to a determined army of ants which would attack our set late at night (especially our lollipop stop signs)
  • Towards the end of the piece, the electronics featured are striped parts from old printers, computers, and servers taken from the studio
