Making Breakfast Healthy for the Whole Family

Most mornings when you wake up, you might settle for a coffee or a cold drink before you do anything else. On working mornings, especially when you have kids that you have to get to school, breakfast can feel like a rushed and stressful meal rather than the relaxing meal that it should be. This makes breakfast more of a chore than it is a pleasure, but every meal you have should absolutely be a pleasure. You should be able to enjoy every single flavour of the meals that you taste without worry. Instead of making breakfast the quick-fix muffin or bagel on your way to work where you are rushing and you’re not eating properly, you should take a look at some healthy options that you can make for your whole family to enjoy.

If you can get up that little bit earlier, you can set the mud for a successful day purely because you’ve done something fun with oatmeal or because you’ve had time to sit and eat without ending up with a stomach ache. There are plenty of options that you can use to change up your breakfast so that the sesame seed bagel that you’ve been grabbing from the coffee cart doesn’t have to cost you much anymore. Just think of what you’ll save! With that in mind, here are some things that you can do to make breakfast healthy for the whole family and a meal that you can all enjoy.

  1. Wake up to a smoothie. The easy thing about this one is not only is it healthy, but it’s a tasty option in the morning when you can’t stomach actual food. If you’ve got it in you to have a drink, however, a smoothie is a great way to get those vitamins and minerals into your body early without having to do much work. Chuck all of the ingredients into a blender, whiz for a couple of minutes, and it’s ready for you to go. Some people like to add water, milk or ice too, so that is something that can stand out and taste delicious.
  2. Do something fun with porridge. You already know oatmeal and porridge are easy meals to make, but you can do something really fun with it by changing up the toppings all the way that you bake it. So you can make porridge in a pot like usual and serve it with a range of toppings, or you can make it and essentially have baked oats. Porridge is versatile and very quick to make, and you can use it with milk or water so that you can have something that’s to your taste. You can try Millet or spelt variations of oats if you want something different from the ordinary rolled ones. The best part is that you can make it in a nice big pot and keep it warm. You can even do slow cooked oats so that you can enjoy it as you please in the morning and everybody who wakes up at different times can still have the same breakfast. Use fruit, honey, or other natural syrups to sweeten it.
  3. Overnight oats are a godsend. If you’ve got kids in the morning who are picky but want something healthy to eat before they go to school, overnight oats can be excellent. You can prepare it all the night before and pop it into the fridge. Especially if they have individual preferences. There are so many different recipes that you can make with overnight oats and you could use different flavours, toppings and textures. It makes the morning so much easier because everybody can just help themselves to their own specific part of overnight oats from the fridge.
  4. Have an omelette! Do you have that little bit of time in the morning? Chucking an omelette together doesn’t take very long. Eggs and then a range of fillings that you choose can be put together in a pan, flipped and folded, and boom, you have an omelette. Omelettes that are loaded with spinach and feta are great brain food for somebody who wants a hot breakfast in the morning and wants to feel fuller for longer.
  5. Have some fun with eggs. Omelette is not the only way to enjoy eggs in the morning. You can scramble them, poach them, fry them, or you can have the ultimate breakfast of egg in a hole. It’s a fun and savoury option for bread lovers, so get creative with cookie cutters and make personalized bread for everybody in the family. You cut the shape out of the bread and you start to fry the bread in the pan, and then when you flip it over to get the other side, you crack the egg in the middle as it cooks. It’s a great way to enjoy toast in the morning, and it’s a little different.
