HOW MARTIAL ARTS CAN BENEFIT MOMS
As a mom, having to chase around your children on a 24/7 hour basis already requires a lot of exercise. Being so hands on we rarely find time to look after ourselves. Getting our nails done or fitting in a workout session seems to be another chore. I was flicking through Instagram and saw all those fit mommies that use their babies to work out. They make it look so easy and it gave me a sense of motivation because I thought to myself if they can do it why can’t I? I started my mission looking into different types of workout, and came across Martial Tribes where I found many fighting styles of martial arts. I particularly grew fond of the idea of learning self defense and found myself drawn into learning more about this type of sport. The benefits that it can do for you are remarkable as a mom, so much so that I felt I need to share with you all.
Control the Tantrums
As a parent we will have worse days than others, days when our child decides to throw countless tantrums and continuous whines over nothing. Martial arts can help us to take a breather and remain more calm in these difficult situations. It teaches great morals and values and after consistent practice, one becomes less impulsive and aggressive towards others. It can also reduce your stress and lower your tension levels which results to a more positive attitude. This can then be implied to our everyday mummy living and the positive energy will only continue to spread to our little ones.
Stronger Bond
They have many classes out there that cater to mums and women. An example of a mum’s cardio kickboxing class usually consists of plenty of cardio workouts, from agility drills, to body weight resistance training, from learning fundamental boxing techniques on the bags to dynamic kicking on the pad. If you are a beginner like me, don’t worry because there is something for everyone at all fitness levels. There are also classes that allow you to train with your kids, which i’ve heard is really fun for both of us and improves the bond between the mother and child.
To the Rescue
The heart stopping panic we get when our kids are about to fall over, or when they are about to drop something. We all try to be that supermum and prevent everything, but did you know that practicing martial arts can make us become more alert? In fact our reflexes will improve and our reaction times will become faster, which can come in very handy for us during all activities of a mum’s daily life.
Look Good Feel Great
After giving birth it is only natural that we don’t feel like our bodies are the same anymore, and our self esteem has dropped a little. Due to the goal setting and positive encouragement that are a part of all martial arts programs, the greatest benefit is greater self-confidence. You will become more comfortable in all situations and you’ll discover you can accomplish anything you set your mind to. In the end, keeping our little ones happy and healthy, getting our confidence back whilst feeling great about ourselves again is what all us mums want.
I feel better after starting to work out again. I have more energy and don’t feel as exhausted at end of the day.
