Oriental Coleslaw Recipe
I am not a coleslaw lover, so years ago when I was offered a scoop of this Oriental Coleslaw at a Boy Scout get together… well let’s just say I accepted it so as to not hurt her feelings. Two bites in I realized how amazing this slaw was and as I finished off the scoop she gave me I was trying to figure out how to ask for seconds without looking greedy. I was fortunate that she was flattered when I asked for the recipe and I have been making it for family get togethers ever since. I have tweeked the recipe a little as our dietary focus changed, but the overall taste has never been better.
This recipe is perfect for upcoming spring & summer picnics and get togethers. It’s easy to make, travels well and is packed with fiber, protein from the nuts and monounsaturated fatty acids from the olive oil.
- 3 (16-ounce) bags of coleslaw mix
- 1½ cups sunflower seeds (raw or roasted)
- 1½ cups sliced almonds (raw or roasted)
- 3 packages Ramon noodles
- frozen broccoli (optional & to taste)
- 1 bunch green onions (optional)
- (dressing)
- 1½ cups olive oil
- ¾ cup sugar (organic, cane.. your choice)
- ⅓ cup white vinegar
- 3 seasoning packets from the Ramen noodles (optional)
- In a large bowl mix coleslaw mix, nuts and green onions (optional)
- Put the Ramen noodles in a ziploc bag, seal and crush (I hit it with a rolling pin... it's theraputic)
- Add Ramen noodles to the mixture
- Mix olive oil, sugar, and seasoning mix if you choose to add (leave out for vegetarian)
- Mix with a spoon or by hand. I find that tossing by hand is more efficient.
- Keep chilled until ready to transport or serve.
that looks really good
I don’t like coleslaw either… But this slaw’s actually looks flavorful, Id be willing to try it!
I LOVE coleslaw, but oriental coleslaw is my fav. I don’t think the recipe I have has broccoli though, I’ll have to try this one out.

My mom loves coleslaw and her handmade kind is superb. I wonder if she will like this as much as hers?
This looks amazing! I will have to try this when we make chicken adobo!
I had this salad or something similar years ago and had forgotten about it. I love to add dried cranberries to my regular coleslaw, so I may try it here too. Also like that it isn’t loaded with mayonnaise, but wondering how high the salt content is.
i am not a coleslaw person but this looks good…the recipe sounds yummy..i don’t know maybe it’s because i’m pregnant..but i will be making this…thank you for sharing.
I love coleslaw, I have never used Ramon noodles but I tried it at a cookout. Nice twist on making Coleslaw, I will have to try it.
i love regular coleslaw but this sounds great too!
I got a chuckle out of that. I’ve had it happen to me once in a while, taking an obligatory bite of something, and being consumed with instant passion for it!! This sounds good to me, it caught my eye! I’ve often looked for something a little different with cabbage, this is just perfect!
Love this…looks so crisp, fresh, and a great way to eat veggies!
I love coleslaw and this is a new twist. I am going to have to try this one out on my family.

We just made this and it was unbelievable. Do you have any more coleslaw based recipes?
I like adding sesame oil to my oriental salads.
This recipe for Oriental Cole Slaw looks so delicious, I am trying to make it tomorrow. Thanks for sharing it.
I’ve never tried anything but regular coleslaw. I love the addition of Ramen noodles.
I like this recipe with the crushed ramen noodles in the cole slaw. I might just add a little sesame oil to it.
Yum! We make a beef and broccoli slow cooker meal and always feel like it needs a side and this may just work with some rice on the side too.
