My Red Carpet Experience at the El Capitan Theatre #DisneyOzEvent

My Red Carpet Experience at the El Capitan Theatre

first

On February 13, 2013 I was one of 25 bloggers flown out to LA to attend the red carpet world premier of Oz the Great and Powerful at the El Capitan Theater. I had never attended an event like this one and I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. Our evening started with a gathering on the terrace at the The Langham, Huntington Hotel & Spa in Pasadena, CA. Everyone looked so beautiful… it just added to the excitement of the night.

Photos of the red carpet, that was actually a yellow brick road, started filling my social media streams. This one in particular shows almost the full length of the “red carpet” area with the entrance at the end near the balloon. The anticipation was priceless! I neglected to take a photo, but we were let out on Hollywood Boulevard where the stars line the sidewalks… we were walking on stars!

We made a quick stop for a group photo on the Oscar’s staircase!!

In a matter of minutes we were across the street and were handed our tickets to the event.

The actual walking of the red, sorry… yellow brick road, was a quick blur. As soon as you walk up to it you hear tons of photographers shouting the stars names and flashes popping right and left. See the gentleman in the suit in the photo on the left? There were several men lining the walk way herding us along booming “Move along!”. I managed to snap 3 somewhat intelligible shots. Starting with the photo on the left, find the black arrow. The cream colored blur that it’s pointing to… that’s Mila Kunis (Theadora). The center photo is Michelle Williams (Glinda) and the third photo is of Wayne Brady. He isn’t in the movie, but walked the carpet to attend the screening.

The center photo above was quickly taken at the end of the road right before we entered the theater. The balloon in the background was a marvelous touch to the entire event.

I later found a shot online of me as bokeh in the background of Michelle Williams photo. I am sure there are a few more out there, but I’ve yet to find them.

Once I was finally settled into my seat I was able to take in the grandeur of the entire place and event.

I could feel the history as I sat there, the organist on stage was the cherry on top. At the end of his final piece the organ and organist sank into the stage through a trap door and the show began.
