Both Emma and Ethan love to play with trains and toy cars. We have been working on a “no toys in the living room” rule, so they have had to take everything up to their rooms to enjoy. This is usually not a problem, but with space being at a premium in Ethan’s room we just didn’t have a proper place for him to set up his train set. When Step2 offered to let us review the Deluxe Canyon Road Train & Track Table we excitedly agreed.

This train table features a multi-level, molded-in track and non-removable bridges so that you will never have to reset your children’s track again! The smooth cover transforms it IMG_3919into table to be used for crafts and/or snacks.Made in USA of US and imported parts. Train set made in China.

The train table arrived in just a few pieces but with plenty of screws and stickers. The directions recommend a power tool (electric screwdriver or drill) for assembly and I totally agree. It can be done without one, but your hands and wrist may bark at you later for it.

It took me about an hour to assemble this alone, mainly because of the sticker placements. It wasn’t tedious work but the kids got a little wiggly while waiting for mommy to finish. The main assembly process is placing the screws through the legs and table for stability (and so the legs cannot fall off), installing the bridges and placing the stickers.

I have researched train tables and even had one for a while that was gifted down through Freecycle. It was a fantastic table, but it was so wide we could barely walk around it to get to his closet. The first thing I noticed and loved about this table is that it is only 26” deep. Just wide enough to have a good playing surface but it doesn’t take up the entire room.

When I gave them the green light, Emma and Ethan excitedly began pushing trains and cars along the track and making up a story line to go with it. This table has and still does bring long periods of enjoyment to our house.

The best part is, it is multi-functional. When you are finished playing in the canyon, place the white lid on and you have play surface that is great for train tracks or even arts and crafts. Ethan has already figured out how to stick his finger in the hole to get a grip and lifts the lid off by himself when he wants to play. My only concern is that the lid is not plastic, but more like particle board. If he were to step on it I could see it snapping or cracking. I have made it a point to show him how to store the lid when he wants it off and there hasn’t been any problems.

I would highly recommend the Step2 Deluxe Canyon Road Train & Track Table for anyone looking for a play surface for their child’s trains or toys cars that doesn’t take up a quarter of the room It’s cute, functional, durable (as are all Step2 toys) and will last for years on end (I can see this being passed down if he ever grows tired of it!).
