4 Honeymoon Destination in the Midwest
The Midwest is filled with romantic honeymoon or anniversary destinations for every couple, helping you get away from it all or throwing you into an exciting mix of activities and attractions.
Mackinac Island
Getaway from it all on Mackinac Island where you are forced to slow down, ditch the car and dive into island life on the lake. There is a hotel stay for every type of romantic weekend that you are trying to put together, from the grand main street hotel to boat houses to private cottages on the far side of town. Mackinac is all about rediscovering and enjoyed the simple pleasures in life so there are plenty of places to stroll, hike or bike while enjoying spending time with each other. http://www.mackinacisland.org/
Galena, Illinois
Sitting along the Mississippi River, in the far northwestern corner of the state is the small town of Galena, famous for its galena mines, lively main street and President Grant’s connection. All of these things come together to create the perfect honeymoon destination that has it all. There are large resorts, historic B&Bs and in town private rentals where you can meld into the local lifestyle for your stay. Book a tour of the nearby vineyards, stroll along the waterways, watch artist paint the countryside or town and join in for any one of the many festivals that happen just about every weekend. http://galena.org/
French Lick, Indiana
Did you know that Indiana has a luxury destination? This little known resort town saw its heydays in the early 1900’s, but after the World Wars it fell into disrepair and was virtually erased from tourist destination memories. The gems of French Lick, like the 600 foot glass dome that is the centerpiece of West Baden Springs Hotel, were brought back to live and entirely renovated. It was worth the time, energy and money too, because Midwesterners now have a huge selection of luxury resorts all within this peaceful stretch of Indiana. A casino, spas, and slightly adventurous activities like a romantic railride on a historic steam engine and line, or horseback riding through local trails await. http://www.frenchlick.com/
Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin
Wisconsin Dells might not be the first place you think of when planning a romantic getaway in the Midwest, but there is actually a lot more to the town than waterparks. Besides, studies have shown that a little excitement and adventure, like the rush experienced on a roller coaster, increase intimacy. Private lake retreats with fully stocked, cozy cabins can be rented out for the weekend, hot air balloon rides can be arranged and there are several fine dining and romantic picnic spots along the river to choose from. http://www.wisdells.com/wisconsin-dells.htm
These all sounds like wonderful places to visit. I would go to all of them. I have a friend who’s cousin is planning a wedding I will have to pass along this info, they might find these places interesting enough to visit.
I’ve always wanted to go to Mackinac Island. It’s so romantic!
i would never think these would be honeymoon destinations! but hey wisconsin is a lot cheaper then like paris!!
Mackinac Island would be my choice. (really Hawaii would be my first choice.)
I would love to go to the private lake retreat with a stocked cabin and sit out by the Water and just enjoy being alone. These places sound amazing and I never thought about a destination in the Midwest. I will have to remember these places.
I’m not on my honeymoon but I sure would love to take my grandchildren to the Wisconsin Dells. Boy there is so much to do. I would love to take one of their boat tours.
I definitely don’t have a honeymoon coming up, but my husband and I love to travel, so we are always open to new destination suggestions. I have never been to the Midwest.
My husband and I were actually talking about going to Mackinac Island because we never had a honeymoon. We only live like 4 hours from there.
I am surprised to see Mackinac Island made this list! We have been there actually a few times and it is quite beautiful! We always love visiting here to take some time for us and just relax.
The two most romantic places I have been to by far in the midwest are door county and Anne, Illinois. The dells is not romantic in any way.
