7 Essentials When Moving Into A Dorm #GetYourOwnNow

This fall I will officially have two children in college. You would think I’m an expert at this by now, but this is actually my first time sending a child off to the dorms!
My son and I recently visited our local Bed, Bath & Beyond to start his back to school/dorm shopping. Thankfully Bed, Bath & Beyond was ready for us with a Student Information Center packed with information on what a student might need moving to college.
We had a lot of fun shopping and creating this list for you.
Here is our take on 7 Essentials a Student Needs When Moving into a Dorm.
1) Bedding: Sheets, blankets and comforters are usually at the top of the list for one back to college purchases. We found an awesome bedding set at Bed, Bath & Beyond that included all of these things plus a hamper for his dirty laundry.
2) Bed Topper & Mattress Pad: Let’s face it, colleges are not springing for top of the line mattresses. Most of these have probably been used for years. We found a nice (affordable) foam topper to help make his bed a bit more comfortable and a mattress pad to put over it.
3) Trash Cans: Because a lot of dorms do not provide them, picking up a trash can is a must. Guys can be messy enough with one, I can only imagine his room without one.
4) Mirror: Although most of their grooming will be done in the bathroom, it’s nice to have an over the door mirror to check yourself out before heading out the door.
5) Towels: Because I am not buying him a “suite” of towels, we decided to purchase a couple of very nice sturdy (and soft) towels. These will (hopefully) be washed often so they need to be durable but yet soft after several washings.
6) Shower Supplies: My son has to walk down the hall to shower at college. This means a shower tote and shoes are a must. Of course there are the fun options like shower radios to consider.
7) Personal Care Items: Don’t forget personal hygiene supplies like shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrush, hair brushes etc. Room mates share, but sharing personal products is kind of gross. I’ve told my son to instruct his roomie to #GetYourOwnNow because health and beauty items don’t want to be social.
I loved shopping at Bed, Bath & Beyond because not only can you find your dorm room basics you can also find all of your health, hygiene, and beauty essentials from an Oral-B toothbrush and CoverGirl mascara to Venus Razors and Herbal Essences shampoo and conditioner in the aisles of Harmon Face Values (store located within a Bed Bath & Beyond).

Well, first of all, I learned that BB&B has a college section! Of course, I had to check out their “kitchen” items, and I found the Precision NuWave® Revolutionary Portable Induction Cooktop. What a great gift that would make for someone who’s college-bound (or for me–LOL!).
