Gymboree Summer lines | Children’s Clothing

This past spring we reviewed several pieces of Gymboree’s Spring line here on the blog. Emma and Ethan have worn these items multiple times and they still look fabulous even through several washes. So when Gymboree offered to let us review a few summer items we jumped at the chance!

Summer in the mid-west can be downright miserable. Between the sky high 100 degree + temperatures and the staggering humidity we just can’t seem to catch a comfortable break. Our old stand by of jumping into the pool to cool off soon becomes a choice between sticky stinky sweat and jumping into what feels like warm temped bathwater which doesn’t feel much better.

My focus when picking clothes this time around was getting ready for the beyond uncomfortable heat as well as choosing a few pieces for our upcoming vacation. Comfort is our top requirement for summer with style/looks coming in a close second.

The first dress Emma picked was the Tassle Tile Print Linen Blend dress.

Airy linen blend design features a vibrant allover tile print in fresh ocean hues. Finished with a poplin banded hem with fancy tassel accents plus poplin straps.

Emma practically lives in dresses during the summer. I love that this has the same comfort of a sun dress with a little extra “dressiness” for when we want to head out to dinner or just want her to look a little nicer. With no sleeves Emma will be able to catch the breeze and cool off the upper part of her body easily. I love that the waistline is somewhat fitted, but it’s not snug so she won’t get uncomfortably hot underneath it.

Her next dress was the Tropical Flower Ruffle Halter Dress.

So vibrant and sweet. Our light and airy cotton batiste halter dress is prettied up with ruffles at the neck and a full shirred skirt. Elasticized back and waist make dressing easy.

Halter dresses are the ultimate in comfort for Emma. I picked this dress in a size larger because I knew that with a halter I could easily adjust the straps while still giving her room to grow and extend the wear a little longer. The description is spot on with the “airy cotton” and even in July/August Missouri heat I know she’ll be comfortable. With no sleeves and a low back she will have maximum air movement. When I asked Emma what she liked about the dress she said the ruffles and flowers on the dress. She is all about “anything girly”.

Emma’s last outfit choice was the Belted Dip Dye Sundress.

Ready for sunshine. Our trend-infused sundress is brightened up with multicolor dip-dye stripes. Elasticized ruffle straps and tie belt finish the sweetly stylish design.

This dress is made of a stretchy cotton material that moves and gives with Emma as she dances around the house. Again, we’ve continued with the sleeveless style for maximum comfort but also went for the tie dye look for a little more casual fun. Barefoot on the beach or with the cute sparkling purple Bow Glitter Sneakers she found on the site she’ll be comfortable and adorable to boot.

When shopping for summer clothes for Emma I focus on quality, versatility, comfort and affordability. I am excited that Emma enjoys dresses as much as she does because I sometimes come away paying much less for her dress (outfit) than I would for a two piece outfit (shorts and a top).

Ethan is a little harder to dress for hot weather extremes. We tend to gravitate towards the “cute” factor or try to find a print of something he really enjoys.

This first top, the Grand Slam Baseball Tee, is roomy, comfortable and features baseball (one of his new passions). We also picked out a couple pairs of the Drawstring Denim Cargo Shorts for him. Ethan is still a little clumsy when it comes to buttons and snaps, so the pull on feature gives him a bit more confidence while dressing himself while the roominess of the shorts allows him to be “all boy”… squatting, rolling, jumping or curling up in a ball these shorts won’t cut into his belly or legs making them the perfect part of a summer wardrobe for him.

Ethan looks up to his big brother who plays high school soccer, so this Soccer Player Tee was a no brainer. I love the background color, Ethan likes that the boy is running and kicking a soccer ball. The contrasting color on the sleeve cuff and neck give a little more visual detail and dresses it up a little bit.

Again with the soccer theme, Ethan picked out this Soccer Ball Tee. I tend to try to stay away from shirts with a white background (because Ethan is talented at making stains) but he was adamant about this particular shirt. I love the contrasting color sleeves and Ethan loves the “BIG SOCCER BALL!”.

Ethan let me pick his last shirt, so I went with the West Coast Surfboard Shirt. I love surfer themes for summer and Ethan is all about the ocean right now as we plan our cruise for later this year.

All of the boys clothing impressed me. The shirts are a nice weight (aka won’t fall apart after the first washing) and as with all previous Gymboree items we’ve owned they wash well, hold up to hard play, and fade very little (or not at all) in the wash.

So you like the clothes but think you still can’t afford to shop at Gymboree? I used to think that way until I learned how to shop there during sales. I got 3 dresses, 1 pair of shoes, 4 t-shirts and 3 pair of jean shorts with this order for $125.xx. I shopped during a sale, used a coupon from a magazine and got free shipping. Why shop “the marts” and get clothes that fall apart after a few washes when for almost the same money you can get quality, style, durability and just plain cute from Gymboree?
