Did you know that there is more than one type of deck cleaner? Well, I sure didn’t! If you and I lived next door to each other, and both had decks, we might still use completely different products to clean and treat them.  That is because a redwood deck needs a cleaner made for redwood; a deck with a solid stain needs a different/stronger deck stripper.  A deck that is just dirty would be cleaned with a milder deck cleaner. 

What about waterproofing? Yep, more than one type! You might want a clear coating on your wood, but I might want a coating that adds color.       Proper surface preparation is necessary for the best waterproofer application and performance. All exterior wood – from decks to fences to siding – should be cleaned before sealing, staining or painting to remove dirt, mildew, mold, waterproofers, wood stains, paint and other contaminants. Even new wood can have dirt or other invisible barriers to the penetration of a coating. For instance, new wood can have an invisible mill glaze, caused when the heat of the milling equipment reacts with the natural oils in the wood.
